Outside Plant Designer
Outside plant refers to all of the physical cabling and supporting infrastructure (such as conduit, cabinets, tower, or poles), and any associated hardware (such as repeaters) located between a demarcation point in a switching facility and a demarcation point in another switching center or customer premises.
Upon successful completion of this test preparation class, the Outside Plant Designer student shall be capable of understanding and performing these related job responsibilities that may include:
- Adheres to the industry standard regarding construction and maintenance of the entire OSP structure
- Assumes full responsibility for the safety and security of the existing OSP facility
- Determines the scope, budget, and schedules for existing and new OSP projects
- Submits weekly project status reports to the reporting managers
- Delivers project installations within the stipulated time
- Follows engineering standards and works as per market engineering specifications
- Develops aerial and underground fiber route maps and executes tasks such as route analysis
- Assumes the charge of fiber optic verification and all cable route mapping activities
- Maintains records of all fiber cable splicing and topography
- Develops mitigation and restoration procedures for emergency conditions
- Possesses proper knowledge of CAD and other software applications used to create engineering designs
- Inspects OSP networks

By registering for our classes, you indicate that you have read and understand this policy.
We may sometimes need to cancel classes if severe weather or natural disaster makes attendance unsafe for students or instructors. If this happens, we will notify you by phone or email. You will receive a full credit toward an upcoming class if we cancel due to weather or natural disaster.
If an instructor is ill and unable to teach as scheduled, we may bring in a substitute or cancel the class. If a class is canceled due to instructor illness, we will notify you by phone or email. You may choose to receive a credit toward an upcoming class if we cancel due to instructor illness.
If a class does not meet the minimum enrollment required to run effectively, we may have to cancel or reschedule it. Participants will have the option to transfer to another class or receive a credit for a future class.
If you cancel or no show, a full credit will be issued on a future design class.
